Environmental Monitoring
Environmental factors such as soil moisture have a major influence on nature and therefore also on agriculture and the landscape water balance. For water management, for example, dry soils are synonymous with a lack of groundwater recharge. Climatic factors are also decisive for the course of soil moisture. The distribution of precipitation, relative humidity, temperature and wind influence the soil water balance. Monitoring of environmental data is of great importance for environmental protection, fire protection, urban ecology and agriculture.
Solution
The 5G SENS IO-BOX allows data from connected environmental sensors to be read out and made available in a cloud. For example, common soil moisture sensors can be connected to the 5G SENS IO-BOX via Modbus/RS485 for detailed monitoring of soil moisture. Measurement intervals can be configured remotely. GNSS position and a 3D position sensor are also available. The 5G SENS IO-BOX offers a weatherproof, UV and impact-resistant, IP65-protected housing for various applications.
The data is transmitted to the cloud very energy-efficiently via Low Power Wide Area Networks LTE-M or NB-IOT. This enables more than 5000 measurements with six AA battery packs.

Advantages
- Highly accurate & reliable soil moisture sensor
- Multi-year runtime (with one battery charge)
- Best possible mobile phone coverage through LPWA networks
- Determination location using GNSS
- Expandable with additional sensors
Customers
- Agricultural enterprises
- Forest owners
- Cities, municipalities & counties
