Asset tracking is used in production and logistics companies, among others, to control assets, i.e. operating resources, in a targeted manner and to ensure their availability in the production process. Asset tracking systems provide transparency at all times about the current location and status of movable goods - e.g. containers, construction fences, machines or load carriers. You also receive information as soon as your goods are moved. This enables you to recognise and prevent losses, theft and damage to property at an early stage. 

Solution

With the 5G SENS, Exelonix offers a sensor platform that can be flexibly customised to the customer's needs.  The 5G SENS is able to track the position of assets in real time. In outdoor scenarios, GNSS is used for localisation. In indoor scenarios, the 5G SENS transmits iBeacon signals that can be identified by BLE-based indoor positioning systems. In addition to position, the 5G SENS offers the following sensors: temperature, humidity, air pressure, 3D acceleration, gyro sensor and light for additional asset condition monitoring. The 5G SSENS offers the following options:

  • Motion-triggered messages
  • Periodic status information
  • Data recording & accumulated data transmission (e.g. at the end of a transport route)
  • Recording of high-resolution sensor data when motion sequences are detected (for subsequent classification of operating states)
  • Alerting in the event of unusual events (e.g. exceeding of operating temperatures)
  • Periodic messages and/or motion-controlled messages can be individually configured via the device management (periodic messages can also be limited to one time window per day).

Mobile networks offer worldwide coverage for seamless goods tracking based on NB-IoT and LTE-M. For countries without these 3GPP networks, the tracker offers a GPRS fallback.

5G SENS offers connectivity and GNSS positioning together with low-power technology for long battery life. Up to 5,000 messages can be achieved with a single battery charge. Remote configuration allows the number of device messages to be customised to the requirements of the practical application.

5G SENS also transmits Bluetooth beacon signals (if required). This information can be processed by typical Bluetooth-based systems for indoor localisation (e.g. Quupppa). This enables comprehensive indoor and outdoor tracking of assets.

Monitoring of temperature-sensitive goods

Small Bluetooth sensors can be used to monitor the temperature of temperature-sensitive objects. With the 5G SENS, the temperature values measured by the sensors are collected and the data (enriched with the position) is transferred to the cloud.

Tools are to be localised on the construction site with the help of 5G SENS. The sensor will also be used to recognise and differentiate between operating states. With the help of the 5G SENS data, it is now possible to implement new digitalised business models, such as ‘pay-per-use’ for such attachments.
